How do you make pampas grass fluffy? (maximum volume after shipping)
Pampas may look “flat” directly after shipping – this is completely normal. With a few simple steps, you can restore its volume and that airy, luxurious feel. Often, simply letting it stand still and “open up” in the right environment is enough.
1) Give the pampas time to recover
After unpacking: place the pampas in a vase and leave it. Many notice that it becomes fluffier on its own after 24–72 hours as the fibers “rise.”
2) Shake smartly (and only once)
- Shake once outdoors.
- The purpose is to release what is already loose – not to “shake out fluff.”
- After shaking: place it in a vase and let it stand still.
3) The hairdryer trick (for faster fluff)
Want faster results? Air can help the pampas open up. Try blow-drying the pampas until you see results (preferably outdoors or by an open window). This can provide a noticeable “lift” without you having to handle the plumes much. This gives the quickest fluff!
4) Styling to make the pampas look larger
- Vase shape is everything: a stable vase with good height and weight gives the pampas a more exclusive drape. See vases here: /collections/vaser
- Shape with a gentle hand: gently pull the stalks apart a little and then let everything settle.
-
Placement: natural daylight (without being in humidity/steam) visually enhances volume.
Mini-FAQ
How long does it take for pampas to become fluffy?
Often 1–3 days in a vase. For faster results: light blow-drying/air can help. However, they continue to get fluffier over a longer period than that.
Will there be more shedding if I fluff a lot?
Yes, more handling usually results in more shedding. “One and done” is best.
Does hairspray work to maintain the shape?
It can help for extra stability, but it’s completely optional and should be applied lightly and from a distance.
