Does pampas grass shed? How to reduce shedding (quick guide)

Yes – pampas grass can shed a little, especially at first. This is normal and is often due to small, loose fibers getting caught during shipping and handling. With the right routine, shedding usually decreases quickly and the pampas becomes practically "stable" once it's still in the vase.

Why does pampas grass shed?

Pampas is a natural grass with soft, airy plumes. When the product is transported and moved around, small particles can come loose – much like "dust" from a fluffy textile. This doesn't mean anything is wrong. On the contrary: lots of fluff = often a bit more initial shedding.

Quick routine when unpacking (2 minutes)

  • Shake ONCE outdoors (not multiple times). The goal is to remove whatever would fall off anyway. Shake hard if you want, they're not as fragile as you might think - but you don't need to take them out of the vase multiple times to shake them more.
  • Place directly in a vase and let it stand still.
  • Sweep/vacuum around the first time, then it's usually fine.

How to minimize shedding in the vase

  • Touch it as little as possible after it's nicely arranged. Shedding increases most when moving, hugging, or "fluffing up" over and over again.
